Wildhorses

The kids helping dad at work. Waiting at the trap. You have to hide so the horses can't see you when they are coming. Suzanna loves Kevin's radio!
Some of the babies at the sorting corrals with some of my babies!

Mares and foals at the sorting corrals. They are beautiful!

I will post more later. We will go more before he is done gathering.

Wildhorses

Cody and Kevin with the gather helicopter. This is the end of the trap. The trap has "wings" on it that funnel the horses into a corral where the cowboys close the gates. As the horses are herded with the helicopter closer to the trap a "Judas" horse (a trained horse that runs to the trap for the others to follow) is released.

Horses have to be gathered every 4-5 years here due to overpopulation. They eat themselves out of house and home and everything else if their numbers aren't kept in check. The gathered horses are adopted out to good homes. (We have our eyes on several) The older horses go to sanctuaries in the midwest where they live out their lives in luxury. Kevin will gather about 400 horses which still leaves over 100 in the wild. He will re-release some to select for the best genetics. The horses increase by 20% every year. Kevin oversees the whole operation and does a great job! I feel priveledged to have been able to witness this so many times. It is beautiful and exciting each time and I was happy to be able to share it with the kids this time. Emma was a baby last time Kevin gathered in Wyoming.

Our first Wildhorse gather in Idaho

Kevin has been gathering wildhorses since Thursday. We have been able to spend some time with him at the sorting corrals and at the trap. Kevin was on the news on Friday night and here is the link: http://www.kpvi.com/global/category.asp?c=169274&clipId=&topVideoCatNo=94836&topVideoCatNoB=167746&topVideoCatNoC=169238&topVideoCatNoD=169239&topVideoCatNoE=169240&autoStart=true&topVideoCatNo=default&clipId=3986643

Rocks

Some of the many rocks that were found during the reunion. Everyone left with lots heavier cars!

more pictures

We will have lots of memories from our reunion. For instance, mom and her crazy decorations, movies on the lawn, playing at the lake, smores, off-roading, bike riding, crafts, "the bum pinching incident", slide-show, canoeing, the mineshaft, rock hunting, looking for junk, geocaching, playing with cousins, etc. Hope everyone had as good of a time as we did!

More reunion

We went geocaching (finding GPS points) in the area and looked for rocks. We found amethyst crystals and other cool rocks. This is Johnny and Belle.
Emma and Cody looking for the treasure from the GPS points and clues.

Zeugschmidt Family Reunion

We had a family reunion last week with my siblings and our parents. They all made it up to Idaho and we had a great time playing. First, we went to Bayhorse State Park and looked at the ghost town then we headed up to the lake and swam. We had boats dragging boats and inner tubes. Lots of fun! Kevin and dad in the canoe....almost tipping!
Lolo and Kevin in the canoe....almost tipping!

More 4th

Happy 4th

We had a fun time in Challis for the 4th. The Forest Service put on games for the kids with fun prizes, we had a parade where the kids got more candy than Halloween and there was a free lunch in the park with entertainment. Challis really went all out and was very patriotic. The parade wasn't quite as good as the one last year in Johnson, WA but I especially liked the statue of liberty with Mater.
Oh and there were games for the adults too!

All dressed up

So handsome! Travis was in the process of throwing rocks but he was very cute doing it! We went to a baptism on Friday and it was a good opportunity to get their picture all dressed up together.

Suzie and the rodeo

The kids loved the rodeo...even Suzie loved the action.

Elder and Sister Lloyd

Here are some pictures from the last couple of weeks. We got a chance to see Kevin's parents as missionaries! It was a rare treat and we look forward to going to Montana to see them again sometime.

Emma and Cody have been sleeping out in a tent in the yard as much as the weather has permitted. They are having a fun summer.
